Choose a stocking tool for the job and state

The right stocking alert depends first on state coverage: TroutNotify is Utah-only, Almost Heaven Gold is West Virginia-only, and UtahStockedFish is a free weekly Utah option. CastIQ is the broadest verified paid peer at 23 supported states, while FishScout requires extra verification because its coverage, cadence, and paid price are opaque.

For new stocking publications, start with TroutNotify in Utah or CastIQ in its supported states. Add TroutRoutes for stream access, onX Fish for lake stocking history in its 11 states, or Fishbrain when the priority is social fishing rather than an agency stocking feed.

Start with the free Utah DWR stocking table as the official source. Use UtahStockedFish for a free weekly email, TroutNotify for selected-water emails after new DWR records are detected, or CastIQ for an iPhone app with broader fishing intelligence.

Washington anglers should start with WDFW and compare four free WDFW-derived micro-tools: WAFishStock, Washington Fishing Lakes, Washington Trout Tracker, and WA Fish Stock Notifier. CastIQ is the paid iPhone option in this set. TroutNotify is not listed because it does not cover Washington.

The most dependable free starting point is your state agency's own publication. The channels differ: some states publish schedules or daily pages, Georgia offers GovDelivery email, Texas offers Neighborhood Fishin' SMS, Connecticut offers a frequently refreshed map, and Virginia also provides an after-3pm hotline.
