Head-to-head
TroutNotify vs six real competitors
Full feature, pricing, coverage, alert-type, and who-each-is-for comparisons. TroutNotify remains Utah-only in every matchup.
Multi-state fishing-intelligence app
Choose TroutNotify for a narrow Utah watchlist and email workflow. Choose CastIQ if you use an iPhone and want broader stocking intelligence across its 23 supported states, an upcoming calendar, weekly digest, and predictions.
Read guideSocial fishing app
TroutNotify is the functional choice when your goal is a Utah DWR-based alert for selected waters. Fishbrain is the broader social fishing choice, but it does not advertise a state-agency stocking feed or stocking-triggered alerts.
Read guideTrout-stream mapping and access app
Choose TroutNotify to monitor newly published Utah trout-stocking records for selected waters. Choose TroutRoutes to research trout-stream maps and access across 48 states; it does not advertise live stocking-event alerts.
Read guideMidwest and Montana lake app
Choose TroutNotify for newly published Utah stocking-record emails. Choose onX Fish for lake information and stocking-history layers in its 11 Midwest and Montana states; history is not the same as a new-event alert.
Read guideFishing access, conditions, and mapping app
Choose TroutNotify when the event you care about is a newly published Utah trout stocking. Choose onWater when your planning revolves around fishing access, conditions, and maps; its My Waters alerts are condition alerts, not stocking alerts.
Read guideFree Utah stocking report and weekly email
Use UtahStockedFish if a free weekly Utah stocking summary is enough. Consider TroutNotify if you want to select specific Utah waters and receive an email after a matching new Utah DWR record is detected.

Use onWater if your alternative still needs access, conditions, and maps. Use TroutNotify or CastIQ if the missing job is a stocking notification. Use onX Fish if you need lake stocking history in its supported states.

There is no single like-for-like CastIQ replacement in the verified set. TroutNotify and UtahStockedFish are Utah-only, TroutRoutes focuses on stream maps rather than alerts, and FishScout's coverage, cadence, and paid price remain opaque.

Choose CastIQ for stocking notifications in its 23 supported states, TroutNotify for selected-water Utah emails, TroutRoutes for 48-state trout-stream maps, or Fishbrain for a broad social fishing app. None is a drop-in replica of onX Fish's 11-state lake history workflow.

The right stocking alert depends first on state coverage: TroutNotify is Utah-only, Almost Heaven Gold is West Virginia-only, and UtahStockedFish is a free weekly Utah option. CastIQ is the broadest verified paid peer at 23 supported states, while FishScout requires extra verification because its coverage, cadence, and paid price are opaque.

For new stocking publications, start with TroutNotify in Utah or CastIQ in its supported states. Add TroutRoutes for stream access, onX Fish for lake stocking history in its 11 states, or Fishbrain when the priority is social fishing rather than an agency stocking feed.

Washington anglers should start with WDFW and compare four free WDFW-derived micro-tools: WAFishStock, Washington Fishing Lakes, Washington Trout Tracker, and WA Fish Stock Notifier. CastIQ is the paid iPhone option in this set. TroutNotify is not listed because it does not cover Washington.

The most dependable free starting point is your state agency's own publication. The channels differ: some states publish schedules or daily pages, Georgia offers GovDelivery email, Texas offers Neighborhood Fishin' SMS, Connecticut offers a frequently refreshed map, and Virginia also provides an after-3pm hotline.

FAQ
How to use these guides
Which states does TroutNotify cover?
Utah is TroutNotify's only live state as of July 2026. State pages for other locations are independent guides to their agency channels and tools that actually operate there.
Are stocking-history layers the same as alerts?
No. History layers describe past records. A stocking alert is tied to a newly published agency event, and even then it cannot precede agency publication.
How current are the prices and features?
Comparison facts were checked as of July 2026. Every price carries a verification note because providers can change plans, coverage, and availability.
Utah only
Follow the Utah waters you fish.
TroutNotify checks the Utah DWR report and emails after a matching new trout row is detected. $39/year (as of July 2026 — verify current pricing on the TroutNotify site). No other state is live.
